08/06/25

Nightdive Studios has unveiled a new trailer for the System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster, showcasing the game’s brand-new cooperative multiplayer mode. The video highlights the improved graphics and cooperative gameplay available on both PC and consoles.

Cooperative Mode

For the first time in the series, System Shock 2 Remaster will feature a cooperative mode allowing up to four players to explore the spaceship together, fight enemies, and solve puzzles. The mode supports cross-platform play and modern controllers, including PlayStation’s DualSense adaptive triggers.

About the Original System Shock 2

Originally released in 1999, System Shock 2 is a cult classic blending sci-fi horror, RPG, and first-person shooter elements. Players face off against the rogue AI SHODAN and mutated creatures aboard a space vessel. The game is renowned for its deep story, immersive atmosphere, and innovative gameplay.

What’s New in the Remaster

  • Graphics: Nightdive Studios has overhauled textures, character models, and weapons, adding support for 4K resolution and refresh rates up to 120 Hz on Xbox Series X|S, while preserving the game’s iconic visual style.
  • Gameplay and Interface: The remaster features an improved user interface with support for modern controllers, including DualSense adaptive triggers. A quick-access bar for weapons and skills has also been added.
  • Mod Support: The game includes built-in support for popular community mods like the Community Patch, which fixes bugs and balances gameplay. It’s also compatible with the ShockEd mission editor for creating custom levels.
  • Cooperative Multiplayer: For the first time in the franchise, a 2-4 player cooperative multiplayer mode will be available with cross-platform support.

Release Date and Platforms

The remaster is scheduled for release on June 26, 2025, across PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG), PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Pre-orders are available now on Steam with a 10% discount.
