About the game
SteamWorld Dig is a single-player action-adventure game with Metroidvania elements, developed by Swedish studio Image & Form. You play as Rusty, a steam-powered mining robot who arrives in a dusty frontier town and begins digging into the earth to uncover ancient secrets and valuable resources. The game features procedurally generated mines, upgradeable gear, deadly traps, and a strong focus on exploration and progression. Its unique art style blends steampunk aesthetics with colorful, cartoon-inspired visuals.
Player impressions
Originally released in 2013, SteamWorld Dig remains highly regarded. On Steam, it has over 5,000 user reviews with a 94% positive rating. Players praise its tight gameplay loop, satisfying upgrade system, and overall polish. Many describe it as a perfect short-form Metroidvania — engaging, well-paced, and charming from start to finish.
