The diving-and-sushi adventure Dave the Diver has sold 10 million copies. Mintrocket put the number out on 9 September. The full game has been on Steam since June 2023, so those ten million built up over three years, not in the first week.
By day Dave drops into a huge hole in the middle of the sea. Down there he catches fish, picks through caves and weeds, and has to surface before the tank runs out of air. At night the catch goes to a tiny sushi bar: he cooks, the guests hurry him along, and the next morning he dives again. It is not a straight fishing sim and not a cooking game stuck on the side. Dinner is whatever he brought up that morning. Now and then a big fish takes the harpoon and has to be worn down until it gives in. That is not a quiet pickup.
Steam has more than 160,000 reviews, about 97% of them positive. People like that the two jobs actually feed each other: after a dive they want the kitchen, after the shift they want to go back down. They mention the jokes, the people at the bar, and how plain the game looks from the outside, then underwater the scale jumps. They get tired of the same dives toward the middle and the end, of too many errands, and of the clumsy tussle with big fish.
