The Silent Hill series is making a serious comeback — and this time, it feels real. During the recent Konami Press Start showcase, the company surprised fans with two major announcements: first, the official reveal of a remake of the original Silent Hill (1999), and second, a release date for Silent Hill f. Here's everything we know so far.
Konami unveiled a short but haunting teaser for the remake of the first Silent Hill. Thick fog, the iconic logo, and a reimagined version of Akira Yamaoka’s legendary theme set the mood immediately. The project is being developed by Bloober Team, the Polish studio behind Layers of Fear, The Medium, and more recently, the remake of Silent Hill 2.
There’s no gameplay footage yet, nor any confirmed release date or platform. Still, the very idea of returning to the game that started it all is big news. The original Silent Hill is widely regarded as one of the most atmospheric and innovative psychological horror games of its time. If Bloober Team can modernize it without losing that eerie magic, we might be in for something special.
The other major update from the showcase was about Silent Hill f, an original entry in the franchise set in 1960s Japan. It now has an official release date: September 25, 2025. The game is being developed by Neobards Entertainment, with a story written by Ryukishi07, the mind behind the chilling visual novels Higurashi and Umineko.
Silent Hill f is being positioned as a fresh take on the franchise — with a new protagonist, new setting, and new horrors. Developers promise players will "find beauty in terror", blending a haunting atmosphere with folklore-inspired visuals and an emotionally rich narrative. The game is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Right now, Konami is actively working on:
This marks the first time in over a decade that so many Silent Hill projects are in development simultaneously. After years of silence and false starts (remember the canceled Silent Hills project with Hideo Kojima?), Konami seems to be taking a new approach: mixing nostalgia with fresh ideas and working closely with external studios that understand horror.
The reaction from fans has been overwhelmingly curious and cautiously optimistic. Silent Hill still has the power to unsettle and inspire — exactly what you'd expect from true psychological horror. If everything goes according to plan, we’ll descend into the haunting beauty of Silent Hill f this fall, and sometime after that… we’ll return to where it all began.
